Jack's Birth Story

|
Jack Thomas Vasterling was born on Wednesday October 25th, 2006 at 9:44 p.m.

I would like to write this as if I were speaking to my Jack Jack, so here it is.

Dear Jack:
From the morning that I discovered that you were growing inside me my heart filled with elation. I was ridiculously happy and a little scared all at the same time. Your Daddy on the other hand was on cloud 9 and couldn't wait to meet you. I told your Daddy that I was pregnant over the phone at 4 am because he was doing a paper route to help us be in a better spot financially for when you came. Thank goodness he did this because it's due to his hard work that I'm now able to be home with you most of the time and have all the fun we have. Thanks to Daddy!!
A few things that were interesting and fun about your time in my tummy was the fact that for the longest time we were convinced that you were a girl. The funny part about that is that Daddy and I couldn't decide on a girl name that we liked. We knew that should we be wrong about you being a girl we LOVED the name Jack or Jackson. Then... we went to the ultrasound and Mommy was anxious cause she's not at all patient. All of a sudden there you were on the screen and we were thrilled. The technician told us that you were a boy ( Daddy thought but didn't say "and what a boy") Then she showed us your lil feeties and you were rubbing them together the way Daddy does when he's cold. It made Daddy cry and get sooo very excited.
Not even a week after seeing you on that screen Mommy had a car accident and had to go to the hospital. It was totally a minor one but that neat part was that she got to hear you and feel you move around.
Most of the rest of the summer was easy as pie and Mommy loved carrying you. Then it came down to your due date time frame and Mommy was SOO impatient. You were due on Friday the 18th of October 2006. That day came and Mommy walked till she couldn't move and was told that she was barely dilated. The doctor told me that she would induce me the following Wednesday. On a side note: My Doctor was Dr. Caroline Leonard and she was and still is awesome. She loved Daddy cause he only missed one appointment the entire time you were in my tummy. Although she didn't deliver you.... she was wonderful to us and I hope to have her deliver your future siblings.
Once we started the induction Mommy was scared but Daddy did great. He watched the monitors like a hawk and spoke up to all the doctors and nurses when he was concerned which isn't Daddy's style at all... but he was in charge and making sure you and I were both safe. It was determined that you would benefit more from me having you via c-section. Mommy and Dad were scared but happy to have you coming out safely. While surgery wasn't our first choice...... we did want you to be ok. Daddy was really brave as blood and surgery aren't his favorite things to witness. You came out making noise and the neatest thing about it was that EVERYONE (there were at least 7-10 people in the operating room) everyone said how adorable and cute you were. Then Daddy took you for a bath and Mommy was bummed out. She missed you already. 2 hours later she was able to hold you. It was the best moment of our lives.
You were indescribably adorable from the beginning. You were a good eater and a great baby. Everyone came to see you and loved you to pieces. We were ready to go home and then we found a little blip on your heartbeat and you had to stay another night. We were terrified and feared the worst. But you came out fine. No worries. We took you home and during the ride feared someone might hit us and while no-one did, we did almost witness an accident.
Once you were home you promptly pooped through your outfit and get a change. Nana G. and Poppa got us food and Grandma and Grandpa V as well as Nana, Auntie Stacy, Auntie Carrie, Uncle Murphy, and your cousins Lizzie and Nicholas were here to see you.
The next day a nurse came and helped us get to know you and we discovered that you were allergic to pampers swaddlers. However... you weren't done testing us. Within 30 hours of arriving home your feet turned blue and and scared us to pieces. We took you to the Children's ER and you promptly farted like an old man and Daddy blamed Mom. It was super funny. We found out you had Acrosynosis and all it meant was that your nervous system was slightly underdeveloped and you'd be fine.

From that moment on you have been such a joy and wonderful part of our lives. Daddy loves being with you each and every moment and his favorite thing was to hold you on his chest and let you sleep. Mommy's favorite thing was to feed you and read you a story called "God Gave us you."

You arrived into our live as a wonderful little blessing on Wednesday October 25th, 2006 at 9:44 p.m. weighing 8lbs. 8 oz and being 21 1/2 inches long. Our lives were forever changed for the better and we couldn't ask for a more wonderful little boy. We love you so much Jack!!!
Love,
Mom and Dad
