It was the first time Joe told me he loved me and I will never forget it.
He gave me a poem and a card that told me he'd "fallen in love with"me.
The funny part was that I felt the same way but was too chicken to say it to him first.
So, I made him a card that hinted on the outside like I was going to say it, but instead on the inside it said something to the effect of "I love making out with you"
His shoulders visibly sagged when he read the inside. I could see he was hurt and I was crushed because I felt so bad for not saying it.
He then pulled it together and very bravely gave me his card which, as I stated above, shared his love for me.
I apologized a few times and said that I did in fact really love him and wasn't just saying it because he had.
It was really sweet because every single day, multiple times a day, from that very day forward, Joe says it to me. Mostly first because he beats me to the punch.
He says it and I love that it's a common phrase expressed in our home. I always want my sons to know that it's wonderful to tell someone what your heart says inside.
I love you Joe. More today then I have in the 17 years since I first fell in love with you.
XOXOX ~A
